Ever since the first Ford Model-T rolled off the assembly line, Americans have been obsessed with cars. For many, cars are a die-hard passion that also provides them a livelihood. For others, spending a Saturday afternoon tinkering on their project hot-rod is the perfect way to spend the downtime.

#5 – 1971 Chevrolet Vega
In an age where big, gas guzzling American cars were competing with the smaller, more economical imports, Chevrolet answered the call with the 2-door compact called the Vega. Designed for efficiency and economy, the Vega set the standard in design for the every-day commuter car.
#4 – 1959 Cadillac Eldorado
For decades, Cadillac maintained its image as the luxury touring car to drive. The Eldorado was the choice “Caddy” to own in 1959. With its spacious seating for the whole family, gracious trunk storage space, and sleek streamline design this mid-century touring car was the perfect vessel for those long road trips.
#3 – 1973 Ford Mustang Convertible
American Muscle Cars often had the reputation of being all brawn with no beauty. They were behemoths designed to drive fast, loud, and hard. In 1973, Ford decided to put a twist on their classic Mustang line and introduced a topless version of the Mustang. Ford kept the strength of the Mustang power and gave it a facelift with a rag-top convertible and touring suspension for trips that extended beyond the quarter-mile drag-strip.
#2 – 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
Arguably one of the greatest American Muscle Cars created, the Chevy Camaro fit this billet to a tee. This first generation design from Chevrolet came in three models: Rally Sport or RS, the Super Sport or SS, and the Z28. The RS was a touring design with an inline six-cylinder engine while the others harnessed a powerful V8. An additional option was the convertible top on all three designs allowing a sweet combination of muscle and physical appeal.
#1 – 1967 Pontiac GTO
Since the dawn of mid-century power motors, no other car renders the most attention than the Pontiac GTO. Originally launched in 1964, Pontiac released it as the answer to being the ultimate touring vehicle. By 1967, in an effort to compete with the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang the GTO design shifted towards a more powerful race-oriented car. The result was a vehicle that embodied the ultimate American driving experience.
Talk to any car person about their favorite American cars and that answer will be a different as the person explaining that answer.
