GM is expanding Recall: Nearly 1,367,146 Vehicles affected

General Motors is expanding the recall. Nearly 1,367,146 vehicles are affected by the recall.

GM is expanding recall over the ignition switch issue. Nearly 1,367,146 vehicles are being recalled now. Affected are model years 2003-2007 Saturn Ion compact cars, 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR SUVs, and 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky sports cars.

The problem in the affected vehicles is that an issue with the ignition switch may allow the key to unintentionally switch to the “Accessory” or “Off” position. As a result of this, the engine and most of the electrical components may shut down.

It should be noted that 31 cases of airbag failure have already been reported with 13 front-seat deaths resulting.

Now, the automaker will notify the owners directly and the dealers will make the necessary repairs free of charge. The automaker is using not only the method of mail notifications, but also phone calls and other media to inform its customers about the recall. General Motors will be dealing with the issue on case-by-case basis to mitigate the losses and the troubles of the owners.
You can contact General Motors at 800-521-7300 and the NHTSA at 888-327-4236 and learn details about the expanded recall.
