Hyundai Elantra Recall may expand

52K cars may be added to the Hyundai Elantra Recall.

Hyundai Elantra recall was carried out last March. About 186,254 vehicles were affected by the recall. Now, the recall may expand by another 52,000 cars.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is now considering whether to expand the recall or not.

The problem is that if a side impact accident occurs, the airbag may result injuries of the passengers. The vehicles of the previous Hyundai Elantra recall also had the same problem. And now, the new 52,000 cars have a design that is very much like the design of the cars already recalled last March.

The defect is that if a side-impact crash happens and the side airbag deploys, the metal support bracket on the vehicles may strike, as a result it may injure the occupants.

It should be noted, however, that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not received any complaints of injuries as a result of the problem since the latest recall has been carried out.
