The new Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG with 577 Horsepower and Forged Wheels

The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG has been an icon for the executive performance sedan segment. The newest model features a new engine, forged wheels, upgraded body work, and more!

Mercedes-Benz is known for their timeless and classic automobiles. One of those iconic and timeless models is the S-Class. It has reigned as one of the most sought-after models for the wealthy and successful and the latest W222 chassis has just become a bit more exciting thanks to AMG. The new Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4Matic model is lighter, more efficient, powerful, and nimble than ever before thanks to a wealth of new technology. Everything from the 5.5 liter V-8 engine to the forged wheels has been optimized for performance while retaining that classic Mercedes-Benz style that makes the brand so desirable.

The new W222 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4Matic is 220 pounds lighter than the previous generation model thanks to a number of weight saving measures. Things like the spare wheel holder in the trunk of the sedan are made from carbon fiber instead of metal or other material. Every body panel including the roof, hood, and more are made from aluminum alloy to cut weight. Even the new forged wheels reduce weight while still retaining the same size as the previous generation. Powering up the engine is a new lightweight lithium ion battery that cuts another 44 pounds of weight. One of the other big factors when it came to reducing weight was the new all-wheel drive system that weighs only 154 lbs. and a set of two-piece brake calipers.

Powering all four of the forged wheels in the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4Matic is a new 5.5-liter V-8 engine that is fed by two turbochargers. The engine is more efficient than the 6.2-liter V-8 it replaces and is still made by hand by a single craftsman in Germany before it is signed off to be installed. The new engine uses a number of new technologies to efficiently make power and is capable of producing a maximum 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft. of torque, enabling the big sedan to reach 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 186 mph.

Steps were taken by Mercedes-Benz to make the chassis more nimble and athletic than ever before on the new S63 AMG 4Matic. The lightweight all-wheel drive system and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission provide the perfect basis for underneath the car. A new suspension design and continuously adjustable settings paired up with torque vectoring ensure that each of the forged wheels and tires they wear grip the road as best as possible. The forged wheels also hide a new set of high performance two piece brakes that were redesigned to shed weight as much as possible. Customers can also opt for the fade-resistant carbon ceramic brakes for even better stopping power.
