Third generation of BMW X5

It seems that BMW fans have something to celebrate for and that is the fact that the official pictures for the third generation of BMW X5 have been finally released on the internet.

Some of the changes that BMW decided to consider for their latest X5 model involve fuel consumption and weight, which have been both reduced. On the other hand, the German manufacturer decided to add more luxury to their latest X5 generation as well. The company has decided that their latest SUV will go on sale in the United Kingdom starting November 13th 2013 with the M Sport and SE versions available in 4 wheel and rear drive, but also a choice of one petrol or four diesels. The good news is that there are plenty of 4x4 accessories people can consider in order to improve this already amazing model.

Isn't this just an X5 with a facelift?

Taking a closer look at this model, its sides can only be distinguished by the new side repeater vent, while the rear looks quite similar to the current car. The nose of the new model seems to keep the second generation's XXL kidney grilles and round fog lights, while the nostrils are stretched right up the headlight clusters.

What makes the new X5 quite special is the fact that it has active aerodynamic flaps and a revised shape, which means that it's basically the slipperiest SUV available on the market today, boasting a drag coefficient of point thirty one Cd. The standard features, including stop-start, electric power steering, regenerative braking and Eco Mode, but also low drag setup help a lot with economy. And even if the new X5 comes with an extra onboard kit and larger dimensions, it still manages to weigh five kilograms less than before and that's all thanks to the plastic side panels and aluminum bonnet.

Is BMW's new X5 generation more frugal?

It seems so and that is all thanks to the new three liter and 6 cylinder XDrive30d which is nineteen percent more fuel efficient (which means that people can save up to 7.4 mpg, while the carbon dioxide will go down by thirty three grams per kilometer), even though it has more power: an extra fourteen lb ft and thirteen bhp. On the other hand, it seems that the brawnier M50d 6 pot diesel reduced its fuel consumption by twelve percent.

The UK X5 sales will only be served by few models that work on petrol, yet the company is still going to work on the xDrive501. The bi-turbo four point four liter V8 engine, reaching from zero to sixty two mph in just 5 seconds and featuring a variable valve timing good for 443 bhp is still twenty percent less thirsty when compared to the old V8.

The improvements on the inside of the new X5

Some of the things that have been added or improved include the larger central display for the iDrive infotainment system, a thirty liter bigger boot (up to six hundred and fifty liters) and an improved cabin trim. Something that many drivers will appreciate is the fact that they will be able to spec a completely autonomous traffic and parking creep function thanks to the heads-up display that can project telephone contact lists onto the windscreen,

Those who will go for the 4 wheel drive and 4 cylinder engine will have to pay 45.255 GBP, while for the entry level 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive sDrive 25d, the prices will start at 42.950 GBP. With that being said, it seems that the new X5 packs a lot of power and new features and because of that it will certainly stir the curiosity of many BMW fans and not only.
