Ford F-150 Price And Performance Comparison

The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular models in the United States. The 2013 edition received rave reviews thanks to its remarkable fuel economy and performance ratings.

A truck with the same mpg as the average sedan is certainly a truck that can be difficult to find at a discounted price. When so many other drivers want to purchase the same vehicle, you will have to act quickly when you find one on sale.

F-Series overview

For over 65 years, the Ford F-Series has offered full-sized pickups ranging from stripped-down work trucks to more comfortable personal vehicles. The F-Series has evolved through 12 truck generations, and the most recent line of F-150s, like the Ford F-350, offers three different body styles with nine trim packages. The regular cab, with seating for three, comes with either a 6.5-foot- or an 8-foot-cargo bed.

The larger SuperCab doubles passenger capacity with a second row of seating. In addition, the SuperCrew has the added convenience of separate doors for the second-row passengers, though the cargo bed for this model is only available in 5.5- and 6.5-foot lengths.

Packages and features

Three trim levels are available: XL, STX and XLT. The truck prices range from $23,955 (£15,370) for the XL, $27,480 (£17,633) for the STX and $29,345 (£18,830) for the XLT. Standard features include front and side airbags, keyless entry, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and comfortable interior cloth seats. The AdvanceTrac technology uses gyroscopic sensors to measure body roll and the turning angles and adjusts individual brakes and engine power in order to maximize stability.

Ford F-150 Options

Options like a rearview camera, towing and off-road packages, power and heating enhancements, entertainment upgrades, exterior-design modifications and interior comfort add-ons can make spending time in your vehicle much more enjoyable. However, everything comes at a price. As with choosing your engine type, carefully consider what you need and choose what fits nicely into your budget.

Ford F-150 Price comparison

The Ford F-150 is the top competitor among the rivaling Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500. Prices are similar, though the F-150's top-end models reach luxury car price levels. The Ford is fractionally more expensive than the Chevy at the entry level, with a base model that retails for $23,995 (£15,397) versus the $23,590 (£15,137) of the entry level Silverado. At the high end, Chevy tops out at $43,385 (£27,839), while premium F-150 models rise as high $53,185 (£34,127). The Ram will run from $23,100 (£14,822) to $48,230 (£30,948).

Ford F-150 Performance comparison

The F-150 offers better performance at a lower price point than the Chevy of Ram. The standard 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine on the F-150 produces 302 hp and 278 pounds-per-foot of torque. This engine gets 17 mpg when driving in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The rear-wheel drive transmission can be switched to four-wheel drive to provide additional support when towing.

The Chevy Silverado base model has a 4.3-liter V-6 that only delivers 195 horsepower, while the next three in line are all FlexFuel V-8s. These are available at displacements of 4.8, 5.3 and 6.2 liters and are good for 302, 315 and 403 horsepower, respectively. The Ram is offered with the Pentastar V-6 that produces 305 horsepower, a 4.7-liter V-8 with 310 hp and a 5.7-liter V-8 at 395 hp.
