2015s best new car releases

The UK's new car industry is an exciting place to be at the moment. Record breaking sales and some excellent new product mean new car buyers are spoilt for choice.

Not only is the retails sector doing well but so is manufacturing, contributing in no small part to the recovery of the UK economy. Here are some of 2015's finest new releases, some already available, some yet to land, and there are lots more on the way which haven't been covered here!

Alfa Romeo Giulia

Despite years of ups and downs and hits and misses, any new output from Alfa Romeo is greeted with excitement. The Giulia compact saloon is due to reach forecourts later this year and the Italian firm badly needs it to be a hit. Alfa Romeo can usually be relied upon to produce something stylish, while a rear wheel drive format and Fiat's excellent JTD engine range should ensure rewarding performance.

A hot version of the 2 Series has been much anticipated and this summer should see it happen. The M2 is being designed to offer flashy handling rather than brutal, straight line speed and will be supplied with a manual transmission for even more driving entertainment. It will wear an appropriately athletic bodykit and use a mechanical limited slip diff.

Caterham Sevens

There are three new Sevens on the way from Caterham, the 270, the 360 and the 420. All are versions of the existing entry level 160 and the top of the range 620R with varying degrees of horsepower. This is classic British sports car excitement.

Fiat 124 Spider

Born out of the corporate reshuffle at Fiat Chrysler which saw Alfa Romeo's planned new roadster become a Fiat, the 124 Spider is a badge engineered version of Mazda's new MX-5. It should arrive by the end of the year, blessed with the entertaining handling for which Italian roadsters are famous. As camper van restoration experts, here at morecambeandwize.com we are particularly partial to a bit of retro charm so we are also pleased to see that the 124 Spider looks full of Riviera spirit thanks to some sexy retro styling. It's the sort of car to be driven with massive sunglasses and a headscarf trailing out of the back...

Ford Mustang

Ford's first Mustang officially made for the right hand drive market retains the high performance brutality for which the car is known, while benefiting from some subtle but clever updating to make it more efficient and more appealing to sophisticated European sensibilities. To be released at the end of the year, pre-ordering has been fierce - thanks in part to a relatively bargain price.

Jaguar XE

Jaguar is planning for the XE to become a key part of its armoury as it aims to challenge the 'German Big Three' and become part of the mainstream premium sector. The first compact saloon from the brand since the demise of the X-Type in 2009, the XE is good value for the sort of build quality, performance and fuel economy it affords.
