Model-year 2013 Cadillac ATS 4-door sedans and Buick Encore crossovers are now under a safety recall. More than 48,000 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The problem is that the front outboard lap belt pretensioner cables will retract during deployment, but won't lock. The cable and the retracted webbing may return to their original length as a result of that, increasing the risk of injury during certain accidents. General Motors is unaware of any related crashes or injuries due to the defect.

The manufacturer has not yet announced a recall notification schedule, but has ordered a stop-sale for the unsold vehicles that are still in the dealerships until the problem is resolved. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified about the recall soon and the dealers will fix the problem free of charge. Cadillac owners can contact the manufacturer at 800-333-4223 for more information about Cadillac ATS recall. Buick Encore owners may contact the automaker at 800-521-7300 for details.
