Airbag Recall widens

You may remember one of my last articles where I was talking about the latest airbag issue affecting more and more vehicles. Here, the airbag recall widens affecting such nameplates as BMW, Chrysler, Ford and Toyota.

The problem with all the affected vehicles is that the airbag inflators are faulty. The inflators are provided by the supplier Takata who is actually to be blamed for the defective products. It should also be noted that in most cases only vehicles in high-humidity areas were affected by the problem, according to a report made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The  problem now affects 7 nameplates, however, the exact number of the affected vehicles is not known yet. Hence, let us start with BMW that is recalling its 325i, 325Xi, 330i and 330Xi models from 2001-2005 model-years. Also, model-years 2001-2006 325Ci and 330Ci models are affected by the issue. The exact number of the affected cars is not known yet. Vehicles now registered in such states as Florida, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Hawaii are under the recall.

Chrysler has not yet specified what certain models will be included in the recall campaign. However, it is known that model-year 2006 Dodge Charger vehicles with their driver and passenger side inflators are covered by the recall.

The number of Ford vehicles involved in this recall is known and it is 58,669. The models affected are model-years 2005-2006 Ford GT, 2007 Mustang and model-year 2004 Ranger.

The airbag recall widens to include Toyota vehicles as well. Affected are model-years 2003-2005 Lexus SC430, Pontiac Vibe, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia and Tundra models.
