Model-years 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles are affected in a new Ford recall. Nearly 915,200 vehicles are affected totally, approximately 740,000 of which in the United States.

 

The problem with the affected vehicles is that a defective torque sensor may cause the power steering system to shut off. This condition may result in the loss of power steering, increasing the risk of a collision.

 

 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), five crashes and six injuries already resulted due to the issue. Ford will start notifying owners of the affected vehicles starting in July 25, 2014. Ford dealers will inspect and replace the affected components for free.
