Toyota Highlander recall affects nearly 50,000 vehicles from 2014 model-year. Affected vehicles are Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs.
The problem affecting all these vehicles is that improper software may have been installed in the vehicle. As a result of that, the force limiter may use the restraint setting that should be used for smaller occupants (for example those who weigh nearly 110 pounds). This means that a front seat passenger with a larger size may not be properly restrained. This condition will increase the risk of an accident and injuries.
Toyota owners will be notified starting in mid-June, 2014. Toyota owners will inspect the affected vehicles and install a software update in the airbag electronic control unit. The remedy will be provided to the owners of affected vehicles free of charge. Owners who are interested in Toyota Highlander recall can contact the automaker at 800-331-4331 for more information.
