GM shipping Ignition Kits

GM is shipping ignition kits for the affected cars. The kits consist of ignition switches, ignition cylinders and key sets. Already several thousand replacement kits have been shipped by the automaker. As you may remember, nearly 2.6 million vehicles are affected by the recall. The thing is that the automaker has already notified 1.4 million owners about the recall.

According to the recall notification letter sent to nearly 1.4 million owners, the dealers are ready to schedule repairs for owner of model-years 2003-2007 vehicles.  The repair will most probably take 90 minutes.

Another recall is expected to begin in a few weeks for model-years 2008-2011 vehicles. The owners of these vehicles will receive notification letters from the automaker at the beginning of May, 2014. Later on, these vehicle owners will receive another mail notifying them that parts needed for the repairs are available.

It should be noted that the automaker advises all the affected owners to drive the cars only after removing everything except the key from the key ring.
Following are the vehicles covered under the recall:

  • Saturn Ion(2003-2007)
  • Chevrolet Cobalt(2005-2010)
  • Pontiac Solstice(2006-2010)
  • Pontiac G5(2007-2010)
  • Saturn Sky(2007-2010)
  • Chevrolet HHR(2006-2011)
