BMW recall

BMW recall affects approximately 156,137 vehicles of 2010-2012 model years. The cars were manufactured in the United States and are equipped with inline 6-cylinder engines. Affected are the following models:

  • 2010-‘12 1 Series
  • 2010-‘12 3 Series
  • 2010-‘2012 5 Series
  • 2010-‘12 5 Series Gran Turismo
  • 2012 6 Series
  • 2010-‘12 X3
  • 2010-‘12 X5
  • 2010-‘12 X6
  • 2010-‘12 Z4

It should be noted that the automaker is conducting the recall voluntarily. The problem is that in some cases the bolts holding the variable camshaft timing unit housing may become loose or even break. "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" lamp will illuminate as a result of this. If the operation of the VANOS unit fails, the engine will work with reduced power. If the issue is ignored for a while, it may result in engine stalling and other similar problems.

If you are a BMW owner and you notice a "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" lamp and Check Control message warning, you should contact the local BMW dealership for repairs.

BMW will contact the owners of affected vehicles via first-class mail to notify them about the recall. The owners will then receive the second notification after the parts for repairs are available. If you have got questions about BMW recall, you can contact the automaker at 1-800-525-7417.
