The road of a private car seller is the one less travelled. Trading in is the more plausible option for most people, but it denies the many benefits of selling your car by yourself. Sure, the amount of work involved is demanding and it takes a while before finding the right buyer. Buy you almost always get the best price for your car, and this validates any trouble you go through selling it.

One of the important aspects of selling your car is getting the car ad right. It’s the little piece of announcement that tells the world of your intentions. It is also incredibly easy to make. This simplicity is underestimated, as some people provide lifeless ads that do not attract any would-be buyers. To refrain from making that error, there are some characteristics that your advert should have to make it appealing.

The Ad

The written part of the advertisement should be straightforward and informative without being too wordy. List out the make, model, year, body style and trim level. Mention the mileage and back it up with a shot of the odometer. Also avoid being abstract in your description.

Flaunt the car’s best features. If it has a good mpg, mention it. If you have made any modifications, list them out. An after-market sat nav system or a new set of wheels might draw in a particular buyer who is interested in such features.

Be Honest

Your assessment of the state of the car should be truthful. If there are any damaged parts, mention them. If there are parts that need to be fixed, highlight them. This will provide some consistency with the vehicle’s history report, and show you off as being credible. Maintenance and service records are important, and their availability should be mentioned too.

Explain why you are selling the car. It will satisfy the curiosity of potential buyers who might otherwise assume you are selling because of its poor state.

Mention your asking price. It is one of the most important details. Remember to include OBO, or best offer, in your ad. It will let buyers know that you are willing to negotiate for a final price. Also mention the acceptable form of payments.

Photography

A picture is indeed worth a thousand words, and in car sales, these words have never been truer. Take high quality images with your DSLR, or smartphone if it has a powerful enough camera. Ideally, it should be in the brightest part of the day as the natural light helps capture the most flattering shots. Take both interior and exterior images. Needless to say, the car should be thoroughly cleaned before embarking on the photography. It makes the pictures more attractive, and helps cast the probable buyer net even wider.

When all these details are captured in your ad, you can rest assured that you will sell your car in the shortest time. Avoid listing your car in different places, or adjust your price once it is set. These are among the pitfalls to avoid, as they portray you as distrustful.
