According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the occupant classification sensor software may falsely classify the front passenger seat as empty. If such a thing happens during a crash, the passenger airbag wouldn't deploy. As a result of this the risk of injuries may increase.
Nissan has conducted a recall of these vehicles in March, 2013. However, according to the automaker, this issue is a separate one.
It should be noted that there have been two accidents related to the issue. Also, several people companied about the problem. According to the NHTSA, Nissan is aware about two incidents where the airbag failed to deploy.
