Volkswagen voluntary recall affects more than 150,000 Volkswagen Passats from the 2012-2013 model years. The manufacturer informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about the recall on March 14, 2014.
Most probably, if the hood is closed roughly the resulting impact or vibration may cause the low-beam headlight bulb to lose electrical contact. After this happens, a warning in the instrument cluster will alert the driver. If the illumination fails, the low beam bulb may result in reduced visibility of the car.
It should be noted that no crashes or injuries have been reported due to the problem.
Volkswagen will notify the affected owners about the recall soon. The authorized dealers will fix the problem at no cost to the owners. The dealers will install a new and an improved bulb fitting. Also, the hood bumpers will be replaced, if necessary.
If you are a Volkswagen Passat owner and you think your vehicle is affected by the recall, you may contact the manufacturer at 800-893-5298 for more information.
