Five reasons you may need new tires

You rely on your vehicle to get you around, so make sure you maintain your tires!

Life is arranged in a number of circles. Every month, the moon cycles from the sliver of new to a bursting full circle. The seasons go “round and round.” Four important, but not frequently thought-of, circles in our lives are the tires on our cars. These circles help insure our safety when we drive or possibly add class. So when might we need to buy new tires?

TWO ENTIRELY PHYSICAL REASONS
When the pothole season hits, the “rough road” signs warn but do not protect against tire-eating dangers. Some flat tires are too damaged to be fixed, necessitating at least one new tire. If you drive an all-wheel-drive car, you will need to replace all four tires at the same time. Since the car’s computer and differential control the tires, the four tires must be the same size to prevent undue strain on the differential. Also, no matter how good the quality, tires do wear, especially if pressure is not checked or tires are not rotated regularly. President Lincoln on the penny provides the standard test of tread wear. Put the penny with his head in the tread. If you can see his head, the tread is dead.  It’s time to buy new tires.

TWO ENTIRELY PRACTICAL REASONS
Vacation awaits and with it that long road trip you have been planning for months. Even if the penny test tells you the tread has some life, you may want to invest in new tires if the tread is low. You want nothing to worry about as you roll down the windows and enjoy the scenic byways on your trip. If you live in Halifax, a local shop like Star Tires Limited can get you a new tire and back on the road in no time at all. Likewise, as the season changes from sunny to snowy, you may want to buy winter tires. Winter tires provide better traction in snow. Summer tires provide better traction in wet conditions. Some people prefer all-season tires either because of the climate where they live or they do not want the hassle of having to change tires with the season.

ONE ENTIRELY VAIN REASON
Suppose you have been fortunate enough to buy that sporty car you always wanted. You may want to upgrade the tires either in size or looks to fit your new ride or to increase performance. On the other hand, if you cannot afford that dream car yet, you may want to “pimp your ride” with bigger, more snazzy tires.

In the circle of life, tires are very important spheres. Your tires may be flat, worn, or out-of-season, or maybe you just want cool tires. Whatever the reason, keep safety in mind!
