Toyota fire risk issue affects about 36,000 vehicles in the US, Canada, Korea, Israel and other countries. The NHTSA is investigating the matter.
Toyota stops sales

Toyota stops sales of eight models over fire risk. The manufacture has already informed its dealers to stop selling certain Toyota vehicles because the seat fabric does not meet the national safety standards.

The problem affects about 36,000 cars, trucks and minivans in the United States. Some vehicles are affected in Korea, Israel, Canada and other countries, as well. No accidents or injuries have been reported due to the issue, yet. However, according to the Toyota spokesman John Hanson, the automaker is not going to sell vehicles that are not safe and that do not meet the safety standards.

The affected models include Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Sienna, Tacoma, Corolla and Tundra models from 2013 and 2014 model years. It should be mentioned that many of the aforementioned models are top selling vehicles in the market.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is now investigating the issue and performing tests with the vehicles to determine whether there is a need for auto safety recall or not.

Toyota does not yet know how long the fix will take. But the automaker is preparing the replacement fabric for the affected vehicles. If you want to know more about why Toyota stops sales of some of its models, you should click here
